OUTDOOR LIVING IN WEST CHESTER

Before

 Before

After:  I designed a deck which looked like it
was part of the original house construction.  Large
masonry piers replaced under-sized wood posts.  The deck
conceals a garage below, and the grade change
is addressed by a series of graceful steps.
(construction: W.D. Wells & Associates, Inc.)

 Simple plantings soften the edges.

While this deck was very well-crafted with ipe (a variety
of mahogany), we are looking at other more
sustainable materials options in our current work.

Materials selections were critical in helping this
space connect to a c. 1927 home.

SWIMMING IN MALVERN

The seasonal colors and textures of the poolside garden
shown above- started with the blank slate shown below.

Prior to construction, stakes mark the corners of the pool.
Challenges here included steep slopes, narrow Zoning setbacks
and meeting the clients' need for privacy.
Shortly after completion, plantings begin to
soften the edges.  Pool, and gardens designed by
Tony Dufour.

RELAXING IN CHADDS FORD

Before

After (above)
This garden update involved removing dated decking,
and replacing it with richly colored brick.  Circulation
through the space was simplified, and distinct 'rooms' were created.
This backyard is definitely relaxing!  We love eating lunch here
when we do periodic maintenance.  Design:  Tony Dufour.
Installation: W.D. Wells & Associates.
